The moment has finally arrived!
Now live on Remodelista is the Chattanooga kitchen we did for Beth Kirby (aka Local Milk) way back in January.
As usual, Beth’s photos do not disappoint. Check em all out below!
And one of the McMansion-style kitchen as it was before we broke ground!

wow, this is by far one of the most unique beautiful kitchens i have seen. it has so much personality and so many beautiful details, but still succeeds to stay with a clean and whole look. absolutley love it!

You are quite the talented duo.
I am very much enamored with this space. What brand of venitian plaster do you use? I am considering attempting such a stunning feat on my kitchen walls. Any insight would be much appreciated.
Cheers!

Thanks, Hanna! Plaster’s tricky. I trained and worked for years as a plasterer, and can tell you it takes a long while to feel confident with the material. The best I can do is recommend Stucco Italiano, who sell fantastic products and also offer lots of instruction and even some workshops.

I realize I am coming to this post late…but wowza! This remodel, like all of your others I’ve seen, looks amazing.
Can you give any insght into how you built the wide floating shelves? I built my own version (before seeing this post) in a bathroom using super long toggle bolts, but the shelves will not hold a ton of weight. Yours seem much deeper and sturdier than mine. I want to repeat this theme and look in my kitchen, but hesitate doing so without a better method.
Thanks so much!

Thanks, Becky! So sweet of you to say.
Floating shelves are always tricky. You either end up with something flimsy, or something over engineered that makes you feel bad for whoever has to dismantle at some point. This was one of the latter! Sorry, future demo guy.
First things first, I got the biggest angle brackets I could find at Depot. They were probably 1/4″ thick and 8-10″ in each direction. Then I located the studs, snapped a laser line across, and marked where I wanted them. Next I cut holes out of the sheetrock so the bracket could be fastened directly to the studs, did that, and then plastered over everything a couple times. I routed out channels in the bottom of the shelves so they’d sit down flush around the exposed brackets, and voila! Probably not as easy an answer as you were hoping for!
In the UK they sell something you might be able to find by searching “european floating shelf bracket rod” or something like that. They’d be easier to install than what I just described, but I can’t vouch for their sturdiness.
Hope that helps!

I love love love these walls. Could you tell me what color they are?
Percy Bright says
Thanks, Brooke! They’re just un-pigmented plaster.
